# CPF MediSave limits & Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS) 2027

The **Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS)** is the maximum balance a CPF member can hold in their **MediSave Account (MA)** to provide for basic subsidised healthcare needs in old age ([CPF Board](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/service/article/what-is-the-basic-healthcare-sum)).

- **For members below age 65**: The prevailing BHS is adjusted every January. In 2026, the prevailing BHS is **$79,000** ([MOH & CPF Board](https://www.moh.gov.sg/newsroom/cpf-interest-rates-from-1-january-to-31-march-2026-and-basic-healthcare-sum-for-2026/)). MOH and CPF announce the 2027 prevailing BHS ahead of 1 January 2027.
- **For members turning 65**: Once you reach age 65, your cohort BHS is **fixed for the rest of your life** and never increases further.

## MediSave contribution allocation rates by age (2027)

For citizens and third-year-or-later PR employees on full rates with monthly wages above $750, the following approximate shares go into MediSave. Amounts at the $8,000 Ordinary Wage ceiling are rounded; CPF computes allocation using ratios of the total CPF contribution ([2027 allocation table](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/content/dam/web/employer/employer-obligations/documents/jan2027cpfallocationrates.pdf)).

| Employee's age | MediSave allocation (% of wage) | Monthly MediSave contribution at $8,000 wage ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| 35 and below | **8%** | **$640/mo** |
| Above 35 to 45 | **9%** | **$720/mo** |
| Above 45 to 50 | **10%** | **$800/mo** |
| Above 50 | **10.5%** | **$840/mo** |

## What happens when your MediSave reaches the BHS cap? (Why HDB buyers care)

Once your MediSave Account reaches your Basic Healthcare Sum, new MediSave contributions above the cap are redirected ([CPF MediSave overflow rules](https://www.cpf.gov.sg/member/infohub/educational-resources/2-things-you-should-know-about-your-medisave-savings-once-it-reaches-the-basic-healthcare-sum)):

1. **Below age 55**: Overflow goes to your **Special Account (SA)** until your SA reaches the Full Retirement Sum (FRS). If your SA has already reached the FRS through top-ups and interest, the overflow goes into your **Ordinary Account (OA)** — where it can be used to pay your **HDB BTO or resale downpayment and monthly mortgage instalments**.
2. **Age 55 and above**: Overflow goes to your **Retirement Account (RA)** up to your cohort Full Retirement Sum. Once your RA reaches the FRS, the overflow goes into your **Ordinary Account (OA)**.
